Chapter 299
"Mr. Smith, Shang Kaijie has fallen asleep," the assistant said in a hushed tone as he pushed the door open.
Luna White stood up and retrieved an acupuncture kit from her bag. "Take me to him."
The assistant hesitated, glancing at Andrew Smith for approval—only the CEO had the final say here.
Andrew waved impatiently. "What are you waiting for? Take Dr. White!"
Once they left, Andrew's expression darkened. "Andrew, this involves our entire plan. Are you sure you want to tell Luna?"
Andrew Smith's gaze was resolute. "She's my wife."
"But this is classified business information!" Andrew loosened his tie irritably. "You know how troublesome the Shang family is. What if—"
"There won't be any 'what if,'" Andrew cut him off. "Luna is more reliable than you think. She saved my life—and yours."
Andrew fell silent. That mining accident—it was Luna who had pulled them both out in time.
"I'm just worried..." He sighed. "Once women know too much, they tend to—"
"She's different." Andrew's eyes softened. "She's never let me down."
Before Andrew could respond, the door opened.
Luna walked in, casually returning the acupuncture kit to her bag. "Done. He'll be up and about when he wakes."
Andrew checked his watch. "The Shang family will be here in half an hour. You two should leave first."
Andrew picked up Luna's coat and draped it over her shoulders, carefully adjusting her scarf. Andrew frowned—since when had the cold, ruthless man he knew become so attentive?
"We'll talk tomorrow." Andrew guided Luna toward the door.
Luna suddenly turned back, a sly smile playing on her lips. "Mr. Smith, don’t forget to make the Shangs pay. After all..." She winked. "We did save their precious heir."
"You sure know how to bargain," Andrew scoffed.
"Takes one to know one." Luna laughed, linking her arm with Andrew's.
As they reached the lobby, they nearly collided with a father and daughter. The moment they passed each other, Luna felt a scrutinizing gaze.
Shang Kaiwen.
Those seemingly innocent eyes hid a viper's venom. Luna clenched her fists, nails digging into her palms.
Andrew sensed her tension and gave her shoulder a reassuring squeeze.
Once in the car, Luna exhaled deeply. In the rearview mirror, Shang Kaiwen remained standing, watching their departure with a thoughtful expression.
"Does she suspect something?" Andrew asked.
Luna shook her head. "Just a woman's intuition." Her lips curled into a cold smile. "Soon, she'll learn what retribution feels like."
Andrew took her icy hand in his. "Patience. We'll take it slow."
The car disappeared into the night. Inside the building, Shang Kaiwen suddenly clutched her chest.
"What's wrong?" Shang Feng frowned.
"Nothing." She forced a smile but couldn't resist glancing back one last time.
That stranger's gaze had unsettled her in a way she couldn't explain.
